| THE GUITAR MIRACLE When we were teaching the students from the villages of Maharashtra God’s Spirit moved in everything that we did and the class received the information that equipped them for their future as ministers. Part of their classes was music training, specifically guitar lessons. When we went to the music store here in Mumbai we discovered that each guitar would cost us about forty dollars. We had nine students coming but really only could afford to buy about six guitars. I looked at different models and types and was trying to decide which to buy for the students. The saleswoman approached and asked for what purpose I needed them. I explained that we were going to teach a group of villagers to lead worship. She said, “Wait here for a minute” and went away for about twenty minutes. Right about the time that I had become agitated by her absence she returned with a proposition for me. She said, “I have a number of guitars in the back that I want to show you. Look at them and tell me if you like them. If you do you can have them for free.” I said, “My mother said to never look a gift horse in the mouth.” I then had to explain the analogy. She said, “I have nine that you can have.” I had not yet told her that I had nine students. Feeling sort of indebted to her I offered to at least pay for the cases for the guitars which were not included. She left me again and returned after some time to say, “I will be giving those to you also.” I then said’ “Let me at least pay for strings for each guitar.” She left again and then returned saying that those also would be gifts. She later threw in pics and chord charts for each without charge. She even made a receipt for me itemizing each guitar, case and pics with zeros on the right hand column descending to a final zero at the bottom of the page. You have to understand that this is an unprecedented act of kindness from a very business minded shop and therefore is a real miracle. In a country like India most could not afford such a sacrifice. Pray for the shop to prosper. |
